HISTORY

Since 1976, Sr. Pastors Mike and Kathy Hayes and Covenant Church have ministered the love of Jesus Christ to the North Texas area and to the nations of the world. From small beginnings in a bank building in old downtown Carrollton in the mid 70's to several beautiful campuses across North Texas, Covenant Church celebrates a membership of almost 10,000. And now with growth in Cross Roads/Denton, Sherman and remote campuses throughout the Metroplex, His mission and mandate for Covenant Church to increase the Kingdom of God through "One Church, Many Locations" is clear. We continue to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet the needs of others through Covenant relationships in new and exciting ways.

For 30 years now, we've been strengthening families, communities and our world by encouraging relationship with Jesus Christ in a diverse, multicultural atmosphere filled with vibrant Worship and relevant Word. If you don't have a home church, consider making Covenant Church your home. Of all the places you could choose, we believe "You belong with us!"

History of Covenant Training Institute

CTI, originally named Ministers Training Institute, began in the fall of 2002 with an inaugural class of forty students under the leadership of John Rodrigue.  Ministers Training Institute began as an intensive one year ministry training program.  That first class, graduated in June 2003, set the stage for all that was to follow - short-term missions trips, domestic ministry excursions, a tradition of service to Covenant Church and the community, and a spirit of determination to seek after God's call on each student's life.  The first class placed several of its graduates on the Covenant Church staff, launched one couple into full time missionary work in the Middle East, and produced several licensed ministers who remain active in evangelism, the arts and sports ministries.

In the fall of 2004, four key changes took place.  MTI's first director transitioned to full time pastoral ministry.  John and Gabrielle Rodrigue moved to Colorado and began Covenant Church Castle Rock, a thriving Covenant Church plant between Denver and Colorado Springs.  MTI's name was formally changed to Covenant Training Institute.  The grueling one year program transitioned to a more in-depth two year program.  Finally, the School of Business was launched to provide Christian entrepreneurs with the training they needed to thrive in a secular marketplace with Kingdom-oriented principles.

The school has continued to grow and expand its depth and scope.  Besides the School of Ministry and the School of Business, CTI now also includes a Missions Training Institute that conducts summer courses in Managua, Nicaragua for students called to the missions field.  CTI affiliates have been launched in Turkey and Indonesia.  And, beginning in the Fall of 2009, students will be able to complete a CTI diploma program through online education.

CTI graduates serve on the staffs of Covenant Church campuses in Carrollton, Colleyville and Texoma, as well as Churches in Covenant International, other local churches, foreign missions agencies and a number of independent ministry endeavors.

The school's motto, Answer the Call, continues to epitomize the pursuit of God's call on the lives of our students.
